POLICE investigating the deaths of four soldiers at the Deepcut Army barracks in Surrey have asked a newspaper for photographs of one of the recruit's funerals, it emerged last night.
The soldiers, including Private Geoff Gray, 17, from Seaham, east Durham, were found shot in mysterious circumstances at the barracks.
Surrey Police are investigating the deaths of Pte Gray and Cheryl James, 18, from north Wales, James Collinson, 17, from Perth, and Sean Benton, 20, of Hastings, Sussex.
Now police - investigating after a campaign by the dead soldiers' families to find out the truth - have asked an unnamed local newspaper for pictures of Pte Benton's funeral in a bid to identify people there who could help with the inquiry.
Detectives are particularly keen to identify the six soldiers who acted as coffin bearers at the funeral.
A spokeswoman said: "It is another line of inquiry to identify people who may have information in relation to the death of Sean Benton."
Pte Gray's father, who is also called Geoff, has always believed that his son was murdered - despite Army claims it was suicide.
Since police began investigating, an independent forensic consultant has concluded that Pte Gray and Pte Benton did not die from self-inflicted wounds
