FOSSILS will be going on a tour of the coast this year stopping at libraries along the way.
As part of the Dinosaur Coast project, libraries along the Yorkshire coast have joined forces with Scarborough Museum and Gallery and Whitby Museum to develop a travelling display of some of the county's finest fossils.
For the next six months four different cases will be transported to libraries.
Will Watts, the Dinosaur Coast project officer, said: "This is a great opportunity for many people to enjoy the fossils of this area.
"The specimens that have been chosen give a good cross-section of 60 million years of Earth history."
The cases contain some of the finest samples from collections held in the two museums. The oldest specimen is a crocodile skull, which is more than 180 million years old.
The tour begins today with cases in Whitby, Great Ayton and Filey libraries.
