ACCESS to York could be eased with the addition of a new £3m park-and-ride site.
The site, with a 500-car capacity, looks likely to be in the Wigginton area, though planners have said the possibility of sharing with Clifton Moor retail park would be looked at.
If the plans are approved, the site, which would be York's seventh, would be operational within four years.
City of York Council's assistant director of transport, Bill Woolley, said a location had not yet been chosen nor had any money been committed. But he said the success of park-and-ride in York meant the council had to look at expanding the service.
He said: "Park-and-ride is a very popular service and we are in the early stages of looking at a new site.
"We would be consulting very carefully, in a similar way to the public consultation held over the proposals for a site in the Poppleton area.
"We are aware there is an awful lot of parking at retail parks in the area, so we will talk to the retailers about the possibility of sharing."
