THE woman killed in a head-on collision on a city bypass was named yesterday.
Twenty-year-old Rebecca Whitwell, from Ashton Road, Stockton, was the passenger in a blue Renault Clio involved in a collision with a white Iveco lorry on the outskirts of York.
Car driver Michelle Johnson, 21, from Mowbray Grove, Stockton, suffered serious injuries in the accident and was taken to York District Hospital.
The driver and passenger of the lorry were not hurt in the incident, which happened at on Monday at about 10.25am, on the A1237 between the Haxby and Wigginton roundabouts.
Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them on (01904) 631321.
* A motorist killed in a motorway collision was named by police yesterday.
Collin Walker was driving a Nissan Almera which went out of control on the A1(M), just north of the Carrville interchange, near Durham, at about 3am on Monday.
The car came to a halt facing traffic on the northbound carriageway and was struck by a Ford Transit van.
Mr Walker, 28, was declared dead on arrival at hospital.
Police said he was from Aberfeldy, in Scotland, but was living with his brother in the Barnsley area of South Yorkshire.
The Transit driver, a 28-year-old man from the Usworth area of Washington, Wearside, suffered facial and chest injuries, for which he required hospital treatment.
Police have appealed for witnesses to call 0191-386 4929.
