GREEN-fingered youngsters will plant 10,000 bulbs today to make sure that spring is full of colour.
Pupils from Hillrise School and St Joseph's School, in Washington, will plant the daffodil and crocus bulbs on Washington village green.
The Washington Village in Bloom Friends Group has organised the event, with funding from the Community Chest. For information about joining the group call 0191-219 3941.
COMPUTER COURSES: Two computer courses are on offer at the Institute, Church Street Community Centre, Langley Park, near Durham. Basic Computing starts on Wednesday, January 29 and Surf the Net starts on Thursday, January 30. Both courses are free and registration takes place tomorrow from 3pm to 5pm.
PUB THEFTS: Police are to target two Stanley pubs in an effort to cut car crime. Three cars have been stolen from the Blue Bell pub car park in recent months and a further five have been taken from nearby Causey Hotel. Anyone with information is asked to contact Stanley police, on (01207) 232144.
LANDSCAPING LAUNCH: Durham county councillor Bill Firby will open a landscaping development in Ushaw Moor, at 10.30am today. Its centrepiece is a metal sculpture made by Graeme Hopper.
WARD SURGERY: Easington district councillor Robin Todd will hold a surgery for people in the South Hetton ward on Saturday, between 10am and noon, in South Hetton Community Centre.
OASIS TRIBUTE: Oasis tribute band Definitely Might Be perform tonight at Yates Wine Lodge, in Burdon Road, Sunderland, at 8pm. Admission is free. For details call 0191-567 1649.

SLIDE SHOW: Carrville Methodist Church, High Street, Carrville, is hosting a slide show and talk called Exploring Durham's History by Phillip Nixon and Denis Dunlop tomorrow at 7.15pm Tickets cost £2.50 and include light refreshments. Proceeds will go to the church building fund.
STRING THING: Haswell Folk Club's String Plucking Plus Club meets tonight in The Wayfarer pub, in Front Street East, Haswell, for stringed instrument players of all abilities. The meeting starts at 8.30pm and admission is free. For details call 0191-517 1274.
GARDEN PLAN: Derwentside District Council is being asked to grant planning permission for allotment land to be turned into a private garden at The Bungalows, Ebchester, near Consett.
NEW SHUTTERS: Durham City Council is being asked to grant planning permission for roller shutters to be installed at the back of a property in Sherburn Road, Durham.
