Junior round-up
A thrilling comeback by Sunderland Tomahawks in their English Under-19 North A League against Whitley Braves gave them their first points of the season. Trailing 1-4, five unanswered goals in the final period brought them a 6-4 win and welcome two points.
Robert Cairns with two helped Braves to a 2-0 lead after 13 minutes. Michael Allinson cut the deficit two minutes into the second period only for Ryan Sample and Ian Emerson to send Whitley 4-1 ahead at 34.38.
Richard Dunn, Allinson and Jonathan Heslop brought the scores level at 4-4 with goals 02.21 apart after 50 minutes. Richard Westgarth struck with four minutes remaining to give Tomahawks the lead for the first time. Allinson hit his hat-trick marker on the powerplay at 57.03 to secure the victory.

An under-strength Billingham Wolves squad made Nottingham Leopards work hard for their 3-1 win in the Under-19 North A.
Stuart Gibbon put Wolves level with three minutes left in the second period.
Sunderland Arrows won the top of the table clash in the Under-16 North B League with a 5-2 win over Sheffield Greyhounds at the Telewest Arena. A great start for Arrows with a brace from Shane Hewitt inside five minutes.
Greyhounds' first reply came in the ninth minutes and Arrows restored their two-goal lead through Jeremy Lundin at 20.29. Dean Holland made it 4-1 at 31.05 before Sheffield grabbed a second five minutes later.
The victory was wrapped up with three minutes to go from Richard Westgarth. Greyhounds' 100 per cent record was gone and revenge for Arrows after a 2-1 defeat in Sheffield last month.

Billingham Bears dropped a point when they drew 4-4 in the Under-16 North A at Telford Rockets. With 03.22 remaining Bears trailed 2-4. Robert Dowd pulled a goal back at 42.28 on the powerplay. The game-tying goal came with Dowd's second of the game.
Earlier Paul Smith and James Udell had scored for Bears after Telford had twice gone ahead.

Whitley Mohawks slipped to a 3-1 loss at Kingston Aeros in the English Under-14 North A League. Daniel Harris scored for Mohawks at 15.11 on the powerplay after Kingston went ahead at 07.09.
In the same league Sunderland Commanches lost 0-7 against Sheffield Stormers.
Sunderland Cherokees were beaten 9-3 by Nottingham Tiger-Cubs. The visitors led 5-0 before Daniel Coffey opened Cherokees' account at 27.43. Three goals in as many minutes brought Tiger-Cubs 8-1 ahead after 38 minutes.
Grant Sharp struck twice for Cherokees and Tiger-Cubs completed the scoring at 43.45.

Cherokees defeated Northern Conference Under-11 squad 6-2 in a challenge in a second game of the weekend. Sharp gave Cherokees a seven-second lead.
Conference went 2-1 ahead after 26 minutes. Cherokees were level when Daniel Bamling struck a minute into the final period.
Salem added two goals at 38.35 and 41.16 to take Cherokees 4-2 ahead. Joshua Lalande and Sharp completed the scoring with further goals.

In the Under-12 North B Billingham Pumas suffered a 0-9 defeat at Flintshire Flyers.
Sunderland Scorpions went back to the top of the women's premier league after a 3-2 victory over Sheffield Shadows at the Telewest Arena. Hayne McClelland put Scorpions ahead before Shadows equalised six minutes later.
Claire Oldfield regain Scorpions lead three minutes into the final period and Teresa Lewis doubled the lead at 53.32. With four minutes to go Sheffield scored a second to keep in touch.
Former Billingham Wildcat Zoe Bayne scored both Sheffield goals.

English National Hockey League North
Sunderland Chiefs handed debuts to 15-year-old netminder Mark Lee and 18-year-old forward Paul Shanks and both played their part in a 0-3 defeat against Blackburn Hawks. With the score at 8-0 Lee replaced Iain Hanson in Chiefs' net.
Blackburn were 10-0 ahead when Paul Rolfe scored the first of his two goals for Chiefs' first reply. Paul Shanks rounded off the scoring in the final minute. John Wilson, 15, recorded his first senior points with three assists. Lee faced 23 shots conceding four.

Andrew Fletcher scored seven of Billingham Bombers' goals in a 12-0 win at basement club Bradford Bulldogs. Paul Windridge and Martin Lewis put Bombers 2-0 ahead in the first period.
Fletcher netted three during the middle period and four in the final session. Michael Snook and Richard Griffiths shared a 15-shot shut-out.
