A £224,300 learning centre will be opened today by Redcar and Cleveland Mayor Eric Jackson and Mayoress Brenda Forster.
Classes have been running at Kirkleatham Local Learning Centre, attached to Green Gates Primary School, in Redcar, since September and have attracted more than 100 participants.
The centre is a partnership between Redcar and Cleveland Adult Education Service, Kirkleatham Community Forum, residents, the school, pxd (formerly Enron) and the West Redcar Single Regeneration Budget Community Investment Fund.
Retired headteacher Pat Rutherford, who is the chairwoman of the forum and the centre's management committee, said: "We're going to have a fantastic day on Friday, then it's another busy week, with new courses starting in computer skills, desktop publishing and researching family history on the Internet."
For information on the Kirkleatham centre and the centres at Coatham, Dormanstown, Skelton and Bankfields, Eston, call (01642) 756454.
