A PIZZA delivery man suffered face and leg injuries when he was attacked on a North-East housing estate.
The man had stopped his car in Moffat Road, Hartlepool, ready to deliver an order when the attacker opened the vehicle's door.
He was punched twice in the face and kicked - but stopped the onslaught when he began sounding his horn to attract attention.
A group of men with the attacker then pulled him away from the car, and they fled the scene, said a spokeswoman for Cleveland Police.
"Apart from bruising to his face and leg, the driver was otherwise unhurt, but extremely shocked," she said.
The incident happened at about 10pm on Monday.
The attacker was white, aged between 16 and 20, of medium build, with a fresh, clean complexion and short light brown hair.
He spoke with a local accent and was described as "walking with a swagger".
Any witnesses or anyone with any information about the attack is asked to call PC Paul Callaghan, of Hartlepool police, on (01642) 302126.
