Sedgefield Primary Care Trust (PCT) is reminding people over 65 and those with health problems that it is not too late to get vaccinated against the flu.
The national and local campaigns were completed at the end of December, but some GP practices in the Sedgefield area still have flu vaccines available.
Richard Morris, pharmaceutical advisor for Sedgefield PCT, said: "Older people who catch flu are more likely to become very unwell by the infection.
"Every year, some people die from the complications of flu and these are mainly older people who have not had the jab.
"Having a flu jab every year is still the best way to reduce your chances of catching flu."
He added: "You should have a flu jab if you are over 65 or if you have chronic heart or chest problems, kidney disease, diabetes or problems with your immune system.
"Although the risk of catching flu is greater during the early part of the winter period, people can still benefit from hav-ing a flu vaccination in January.
"So if you have not yet had the jab or made arrangements to have it, you should contact your doctor's surgery as soon as possible."
