TWO dogs, which were cruelly dumped on the side of a road, are looking for a new home.
The black and tan collie crosses were left on Hill House Lane, in Sadberge, near Darlington.
A passer-by saw the dogs wandering near the busy road and called staff from the nearby National Canine Defence League (NCDL) to help.
When they arrived they found the dogs, which were injured and very nervous, so a dog trap was set to make sure they did not run off and into more danger.
One of the animals, nicknamed Milo, had already been hit by a car and could only drag himself along on his back legs.
He was taken to an orthopedic specialist to receive expert care and although he still has scar on his back, it will be hidden when his fur grows back.
The other dog, called Tyler, is in good health but is still nervous after his ordeal.
NCDL Darlington manager Catherine Gillie said: "It is astonishing that anyone can be so callous to treat these dogs in such a terrible way.
"They were dumped at the side of the road without a second thought. Things could have been much worse as both dogs could have been killed under the wheels of a car. They have both now made remarkable recoveries following their ordeal and although Milo won't win any marathons they would both make wonderful pets for anyone willing to give them the love they deserve."
Anyone interested in giving the dogs a home is asked to call (01325) 333114.
