A RICHMOND artist has turned his flair for large-scale design into a business.
Gary Cox, 35, launched his mural painting business from his home in Coronation Place after completing a one-off commission in Leeds.
Although he has no formal training, Mr Cox was asked to paint five Disney character murals at the DSS creche in Leeds. The work came via a friend who works in the construction industry there.
"I've always been artistic and have worked in that field in a number of ways, including tattooing and engraving," said Mr Cox. "Someone hooked me up with the lone parents scheme and they helped me find employment. Doors opened; I gained my driving licence and have set up the business with the help of Bedale Business Solutions."
Mr Cox, who is compiling brochures and other promotional material, uses a variety of paints, including acrylic and emulsion, to complete his designs.
His children, Daniel, 13, and Savannah, seven, already have murals on their bedroom walls.
