VOLUNTEERS are needed to help a charity assist elderly people in County Durham.
Age Concern's information team is seeking support from people who can back up its work enabling older people, their families and carers exercise their rights and entitlements.
The charity attempts to allow older people to maintain their independence and quality of life.
Information team members help with form-filling, benefit checks, consumer advice, general information, community care and much more.
Veronica Lewis, an information officer at the charity's Durham offices, said: "We can visit people in their homes if they are unable to come to us. We run information days, outreach sessions, and visit sheltered accommodation and community halls.
"In the past ten months we have helped older people claim nearly £400,000 in unclaimed benefits."
The branch covers the whole county, so volunteers should live anywhere within the Durham boundaries. Full accredited training is offered.
Anyone who thinks they may be suited to the role is asked to write to Ms Lewis, at Age Concern Durham County, 7 Atherton Street, Durham, DH1 4DJ, or telephone 0191-386 3856 for an information pack.
