INQUIRIES continue today into the cause of a weekend blaze which forced the closure of a section of a main road into a city centre.
Fire extensively damaged a launderette and dry cleaners in Hylton Road, Sunderland, causing the evacuation of families from three homes in nearby Franklin Street, shortly after 6am on Saturday.
Flames also spread to a neighbouring caf and betting shop, and a stretch of Hylton Road remained closed for several hours while 20 firefighters tackled the blaze.
No one was injured in the incident, but structural engineers were called out to make safe some of the damaged buildings.
