A WOMAN who died in a two car crash near Malton on Sunday was last night named as 40-year-old Sharon Dowson.
Mrs Dowson, of Farm Close, Whitby, was a front seat passenger in a silver Peugeot 206 which collided with a blue Vauxhall Cavalier on the A169 at 11.50am. Driver Marc Richard Dowson, 24, of Mulgrave Road, Whitby, was taken to York District Hospital with slight injuries. The occupants of the Cavalier, David James Newman, 31, and Chloe Martin, 25, both of Castlegate, Norton, and Mr Newman's five-year-old daughter, Maisie, of Dean Road, Norton, were taken to hospital with slight injuries. Witnesses are asked to call police on (01723) 509555.
SWEET NEWS: Yorkshire Euro MP David Bowe has welcomed the news that Euro judges have ruled against a bid to have British chocolate renamed chocolate substitute. He described the name change suggested by Spain and Italy as nonsense.
MAYOR'S MARKET: The Mayor of Richmond, Councillor Stuart Parsons, is hosting a market to raise money for charity this weekend. Doors open at Richmond Market Hall at 10am on Sunday.

PTTER GIFT: Vale of York Tory MP Anne McIntosh is donating a copy of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets to the library at Poppleton, near York, on Friday, to promote children's literature in local schools.
ENTRANCE REPAIRS: The stone portico at the St Nicholas Street entrance to Scarborough Town Hall is to be given a major overhaul to repair the effects of weathering. Badly-eroded sections will be replaced using matching stone.
ENGINE SHED: Work has begun on repairs to the engine shed at Scarborough North Bay's miniature railway. The shed was badly damaged by fire last year.
BOOK SALE: York University's annual sale of surplus textbooks takes place on the campus next week, from Monday to Thursday. Book prices will start at £1.20 on Monday dropping to 15p on Thursday. The proceeds will go to the charity Feed the Minds.
TRAILER THEFT: A new aluminium trailer, worth £2,000, has been stolen from Air Supply, in Stockton-on-the-Forest, York. The trailer was a Graham Edwards flat-bed twin-axle.
TV MUSIC: Stape Silver band is holding a concert of music from TV advertisements, called Commercial Breakdown, at St Peter's Church, Norton-on-Derwent, at 7.30pm on Friday, February 7. Tickets are £4 or £2.50 for children, available from Malton post office or by contacting (01751) 472224.
HOIRSE COURSE: Plans to develop an equestrian cross-country course by Thornthorpe, near Malton, have been given the go-ahead.
