TWO women whose lives have been hit by cancer have raised £1,000 to aid research into the disease - by making jars of preservatives, and baking.
Maureen Hood and Ann Ward of Fryup, near Whitby, made jam, cakes, and chutneys to raise the money which is to be used to fund the cancer care unit at James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.
Mrs Hood suffered breast cancer 20 years ago, and Mrs Ward's husband, Brian died from prostate cancer three years ago.
