STEAM engineers are to make a return to Darlington this weekend as families are invited to help with a construction project at Darlington's Railway Centre and Museum.
Visitors to the museum in North Road will have the chance to work on a giant papier mach replica of one of the exhibits in the museum.
Two attendants have built the framework of a quarter- scale version of locomotive number 1463, a North Eastern engine built at the North Road Works in Darlington.
Work on the model starts on Saturday, at 10am, and will continue every weekend and selected weekdays until it is completed.
John Wilks, acting heritage manager for the museum, said: "This is a really fun project and will let visitors of all ages literally get their hands dirty and have fun while they build this engine.
"It's a great way of letting the people of Darlington enjoy and remember the town's railway traditions and introducing a new generation to the important role Darlington played in the development of Britain through the railways."
