A silent Vigil for Peace will be held at Sedgefield Crosshills, on the village green, from 11am to noon on Saturday. The event has been organised by the Sedgefield Against War group. St Edmund's Church will also be open for people to light prayer candles.
COUNCIL MEETS: A meeting of Spennymoor Town Council will be held in the town hall, next Tuesday, at 6.45pm.

SCOUT AWARD: Philip Harnby, 18, a member of the St George Venture Scouts unit in Bishop Auckland, has been presented with a Venture Scout Award. The badge is the final stage towards the Queen Scout Award, Scouting's top honour.
FORUM MEETS: The Spennymoor Town Centre Forum will hold it first meeting of the year on Thursday January 30, at 7pm, in the town hall.
PETROL THEFT: Ten litres of unleaded petrol and five litres of paraffin were stolen from a shed in Leaside, on the Newton Aycliffe Industrial Estate, between 5pm on Friday and 9.30am on Monday.
HOUSE BURGLED: Several items of jewellery, and a mobile telephone and a charger, were stolen from a house in Scott Place, Newton Aycliffe, between 12.45pm and 3.15pm on Monday.
EQUIPMENT STOLEN: Twenty bags containing about £1,000 worth of plumbing materials have been stolen from a building site at Butterwick Road, Fishburn.
RELATIVES SOUGHT: Ferryhill Comprehensive School headteacher Steve Gater has been contacted by the family of a William Slater, born in Ferryhill in 1911, who are looking for relatives. Anyone with any information can contact Mr Gater on (01740) 651554.
GRANT APPROVED: Ferryhill Town Council has approved a grant of £800 to Dean Bank and Ferryhill literary Institute.
OPEN DAY: Lothian House Nursing Home, Spennymoor, is holding an open day on Friday, between 10am and 4pm, with the Mayor and Mayoress of Sedgefield Borough as special guests.
