Elizabeth Melrose, from North Yorkshire County Libraries, will hold workshops to help people trace their family tree. The two-hour sessions will provide advice and information on the resources available.

GOLF SESSIONS: An initiative in Harrogate's primary schools is teaching youngsters how to play golf. Oversized plastic clubs and balls are being introduced so youngsters can develop the skills required to play golf. Run by the Golf Foundation, the scheme is also running at Granby Leisure Centre for children aged over six. The sessions take place from 5.30pm to 6.30pm on Wednesdays.
SAFER CYCLING: Every pupil in year five in York will take a cycling skills course because of an expansion of the City of York Council's training programme. The free half-day sessions for nine and ten-year-olds will cover general cycling skills, bike maintenance and use of gears and brakes.
VOLUNTEER CASH: Bedale Volunteer Bureau has been awarded £1,748 to allow it to work with other organisations on a recruitment campaign. The cash has been awarded by Timebank, the national volunteering charity. For information about becoming a volunteer, call Kate Duggan on (01677) 425329.
FARMERS' MEETING: Anne McIntosh, MP for the Vale of York, will hold a farmers' meeting on Friday, at 4pm, at the Motel Leeming, in Bedale. Farmers from the Vale of York are invited to attend. Craig McGarvey, of the Environment Agency, will give a talk.
FREE WEEKEND: The World of James Herriot is hosting a free weekend for Hambleton residents from tomorrow until Sunday. To claim free admission, you must bring a household bill containing your name and address. The centre is open from 11am, with the last admission at 3pm.
EVENING CLASS: An eight-week course on Revolution and the House of Hanover from 1688 to 1727 is being held at the Bedale Care Centre, Wycar, starting on Thursday, January 27, from 7pm to 9pm. To take part, call (01677) 423621.
