A DERELICT pool complex is to be razed and the area landscaped in a scheme costing more than £1m.
Regional development agency Yorkshire Forward has increased its funding from £600,000 to £900,000 to enable the work to be carried out at Scarborough's South Bay complex, as part of an urban renaissance scheme.
The contract is to be awarded to Edward Nuttall, of Newcastle, which is already carrying out a £33m coastal defence scheme at the town's Marine Drive and East Pier.
Derek Rowell, Scarborough Borough Council's technical services director, said the authority was contributing £569,000 towards the project, which is due to start next month and be completed by August.
Mr Rowell said "With the completion of the South Bay scheme will come not only the removal of major dereliction and a long awaited improvement to the South Bay pool site, but also the removal and recycling of demolition material from other sites in Scarborough".
