A SCHOOLBOY hero has been praised by a police chief.
Although threatened by a burglar after witnessing a break-in at a pensioner's house, 15-year-old Dean Cook gave evidence for the prosecution at a trial.
Cleveland Police said Dean's evidence led to the teenage burglar pleading guilty and being placed into the care of the local authority.
Last night, Dean was presented with a Certificate of Good Citizenship by Cleveland Chief Constable Barry Shaw.
Also receiving awards were 30 police officers including four constables from Hartlepool who saved the life of a woman who set herself on fire with petrol.
Two constables received accolades for risking their lives by diving into icy seas in a vain attempt to save a drowning man.
