PUPILS who could usually expect detention for damaging school buildings were encouraged to daub it with graffiti yesterday.
Youngsters at Durham High School for Girls put on overalls and decorated the science labs, which are due to be demolished on February 14, with colourful artwork.
They each paid £1 for the privilege, which will be donated to a multiple sclerosis charity.
The event was organised by girls in years ten and 11 after Heidi Sharkey and Laura Alliston came up with the idea, and the house which raised the most money was awarded points for the annual inter-house competition.
Teacher Patricia Burton said: "Four labs were used so everyone wasn't crowding into the same place. They had a whale of a time."
