A PUBLIC bridleway which is part of the Marske to Saltburn cycleway is to close for repairs.
The bridleway, which runs from the corner of Howard Drive, Marske, to the motorcycle barrier near the entrance to Saltburn allotment, next to the railway line, will be closed from Monday, February 3, until Friday, February 14.
There is an alternative pedestrian route through Windy Hill Farm, using existing public footpaths. However, there is no alternative passage for horse riders.
Emma Daniel, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's public rights of way officer, said: "This bridleway is an extremely important link for people travelling between Marske and Saltburn and as an access for horse riders getting on to the beach in Marske from Saltburn.
"We must apologise for any inconvenience this closure will cause, but it is unavoidable. In its present condition, it cannot sustain the numbers of users it receives, but once the work has been completed, the route will be able to cope."
