Shildon: On Saturday Shildon Athletes were on school duty at the Durham County Schools XC championships held at King James Comprehensive School, Bishop Auckland.
The Shildon club had 16 athletes representing various schools of which 13 qualified to represent their county at the Inter Counties championships held at Hexham on Saturday February 1.
Year 7 boys: Simon Hewitson 5th, Andrew Cummings 9th
Year 7 girls: Amy Bunning 4th, Natasha Heslop 7th
Year 8/9 boys: Warren Roberts 2nd, Khalil Thompson 6th, Anthony Brown 13th: Andrew Thompson 14th

The same day at the North of England Indoor Championships held at Sports City Manchester day one provided two medals for the Shildon club.
Richard Turner won his heat on the Under-20 men's 400m in a time of 52.7 and then went on to take the bronze medal in the final in a time of 52.04, team mate Gemma Brown in the Under 20 women's 400m also won her heat in a time of 66.1 and went on in the final to take the silver medal in a time of 63.1.
Other results: Under-20 men 60m: Adam Rogers heat 2 7th, 7.56 personal best; semi final: 8th 8.44.
Under-17 women 60m: Catherine Turner heat 2 5th 8.39; semi final 8th 8.44.
Under-17 women 300m: Gemma Morgan heat 1 2nd 44.6.
Under-17 men 200m: John Burns heat 2 4th 25.89 personal best.
Under-15 girls 60m: Melanie Robinson heat 3 5th 8.94.
Under-15 girls 200m: heat 3 3rd 30.3.

Middlesbrough AC
Peter Vickers performed a unique double in the NEC Indoor Athletic championship at Jarrow by winning both the Under-20 and senior 60m sprint titled.
This involved six races during the day and he clocked 7.0 for the Under-20 final and 7.1 for the senior race so is capable of running under seven seconds in the Northern Championship in Manchester later this month.
The club enjoyed further sprint success in the young age groups with Louis McElwee winning the Under-15 title, last year's Under-13 champion and record holder Richard Kilty finishing fourth.
In the Under-13 section Joe Corrigan and Ben Sanderson took gold and silver while Ben Wilson the 2002 Under-15 champion and record holder claimed bronze in his first season as an Under-17.
Faye Winspear took silver in the Under-15 girls sprint clocking the same time as the winner.
Suote Nyananyo although still a teenager won the senior 40m hurdles in a time of 8.8 and Dale Jordan a multi medalist at the field event championships was fourth in the Under-20 hurdles.
