ONE of the region's leading theatres has announced details of its new season - with something for everyone.
Durham's Gala Theatre has already scored several successes this season with sell-out shows such as tribute band Abba Gold and a rock 'n' roll nostalgia show Rockin' on Heaven's Door.
Tomorrow, one of Britain's best-known pianists, John Lill, gives a recital, starting at 7.30pm, with a change of tempo from next Tuesday to Saturday as Durham Amateur Operatic Society returns to the Gala for its seasonal pantomime Peter Pan.
The Blues Brothers are in town on February 7 and 8, followed by the Brandenburg Sinfonia playing Strauss on February 9 and the region's own premier orchestra, the Northern Sinfonia, on February 14.
Ten-piece tribute band Nearly Dan revive the 1970s sounds of Steely Dan the following night.
Other highlights through the rest of the schedule, through to mid-June, are Jane Eyre, from February 18 to 22, Brief Encounter, from February 24 to March 1, Ultravox, Slik and Band Aid veteran Midge Ure, on April 8, a tribute to America's first lady of song Ella Fitzgerald, on May 17, and bawdy Aussie comedy singer/songwriter, Kevin Bloody Wilson, on June 9.
Gala sales and marketing manager Ed Tutty said: "There should be something of appeal to everyone.
"We have seasons within seasons, with four or five classics, a few good comedies and drama, and a smattering of tribute acts, which are proving very popular.
"Since November we have been averaging 75 per cent full houses."
Further information on the winter and spring season and ticket details are available from the box office, on 0191-332 4041.
* The Studio Restaurant at the Gala has closed for a facelift and New Year change of image.
The top floor restaurant will become the Studio Bistro, with less haute cuisine and a more relaxed atmosphere.
Places can be booked on 0191-332 4052.
