Laddie pinned Goldsborough in their own half from kick off and were rewarded by going 3 goals up within 15 minutes.Lawther netted the first after 5 minutes following some good work by Hairs. 5 minutes later Combellack added a second, then Brown thundered in a 3rd.Goldsborough managed to claw their way into the game with Stewart working hard in midfield and Dent seeing his shot fly over the bar., however Laddie kept control and the score remained 0 - 3 qt half time. Grosmont v Lingdale Utd
The game, played in excellent spirit, was even for the first 30 minutes. Hololob opened the scoring for Lingdale with the only goal of the first half. Grosmont pushed forward in the second half in an attempt to find the equaliser but were caught on the break allowing Fodor to net Lingdale's second. In the final 20 minutes Grosmont had a good spell creating numerous chances but good defending and goalkeeping kept them out and in the 80th minute Lingdale clinched the points with the best goal of the match when he chipped from the edge of the box and the ball floated into the net.
Lealholm v Hinderwell
Hinderwell played well with just ten men, while Lealholm under performed. Hinderwell opened the scoring with a good close range volley from Oreroyd in the 20th minute and held on until the 80th minute when Brown stabbed the ball home from a corner to level the score for Lealholm.
Loftus Ath v Annandale Hotel
In a match, sponsored by Sandy Grey (Decorators), both teams struggled to get into the game after the long lay off. Loftus took the lead after 15 minutes through Carter but the lead was short lived as Annandale came back 10 minutes later. Loftus created several more chances in the 1st half but failed to convert. Deveraux netted early in the second half to give Loftus their lead and although they continues to press forward the Annadale defence held firm keeping the score at 2-1.
Whitby Fishermans v Anchor Inn
Both teams competed well on what proved to be a scrappy game on an appalling playing surface. Fishermans started the brighter and it was no surprise when Clarke made his way into the penalty box and was brought down, Anderson successfully converting the resulting penalty. This fired Anchor up and they began passing the ball artound and finding their two front players. While Whitby defended well, 10 minutes before the break Anchor were awarded a penalty.
Harland made an excellent double save ensuring Whitby remained 1 up at the break.
The second half started much the same as the first, Clarke squandering two good chances to put Whitby ahead before finally finding the net when good play down then right put him one on one with the keeper. Anchor then took the initiative and after making a couple of substitutions put Whitby under a lot of pressure.
After going close on a number of occasions they finally pulled a goal back. Fishermans, having used all their substitutes were looking a tired team and despite Swales working tirelessly in midfield and Harland making some excellent saves it was no surprise when a goal mouth scramble led to the equaliser with only five minutes remaining.
North Riding Challenge Cup
Civil Service York v Grangetown YCC
Grangetown took an early lead when Wise latched on to a long free kick and slotted home. Civil service then pressed forward forcing Moore in the Grangetown goal to save twice before Civil Service equalised on the stroke of half time, following a defensive lapse.
In the second half Grangetown began to dominate. Scott made it 2-1 when he beat the offside trap to slot under the keeper. Grangetown then had a penalty saved but quickly came back to increase their lead, again through Scott. Two Beckhamesque goals then followed from the two youngsters, first Ward from 30 yards then Williams from inside his own half, from a keepers clearance.
James completed the scoring in the 80th minute with a superb chip to give Grangetown a comfortable passage to the quarter finals where they meet fellow league members Brotton
Redcar CO v Brotton WMC
The game started very evenly with few chances from either team for the first 20 minutes.
Brotton were then awarded a corner which McMillan swung into the box and which seemed to have been cleared by the Redcar defence but a goalmouth scramble resulted in the ball bouncing onto the post and despite a vain attempt by the Redcar keeper the referee judged it to have crossed the line.
This seemed to settle Brotton and they began creating more chances. On 40 minutes a poor back pass by Redcar was intercepted by Solomon, who rounded the keeper to score Brotton's second and give them a cushion at the break.
In the second half Redcar began well an pressed the Brotton defence but could not find the net. A clearance by the Redcar keeper in the 65th minute hit Solomon on the back and although he was quick to react he blazed the ball over the bar, with an empty net begging.
Brown had several chances but his finishing was poor and looked to have been costly when a 25yd shot from French sailed into the net to give Redcar hope. Redcar pushed and pushed and came close to equalising in the 85th minute when a long range shot was just inches from crossing the line.
Brotton's defence held out for the last five minutes, the result giving them a place in the last eight.
Staithes Ath v Lingdale Tavern
An excellent all round effort from Staithes, in a good competitive game as always aginst the Lingdale lads, saw them comfortably through to the last eight . A determined defensive display by Theaker saw him rob the ball from Breckon, drop it off to Wood who slipped it through for Ward to calmly beat two players and slot past the Lingdale keeper. Bowes was becoming increasingly menacing up front, turning the Lingdale defence, picking the ball up from 18 yards and weaving his way past 3 defenders to slot home giving Staithes a two goal advantage at the break. Lingdale's tackling and determined attitude increased in the second half but Staithes held their shape and discipline and piling on more pressure, Bowes skilfully scoring twice more to complete his hat trick. A rare lapse allowed Lingdale to pull a goal back but the game was already won. Staithes could have gone further ahead with two glaring chances missed but were happy to setle for the 4-1 win.
