The League resumed this week after its winter break, which had an extension due to the weather.
Only one match was postponed this week and disappointingly, it was due to involve the teams who have played fewest games, Frankland and Tyne and Wear.
With Tyne and Wear not playing, end of year leaders, Laughbaurgh remain top despite losing at Derwentside by the odd goal in five. Their seven game unbeaten run came to an end, when they were hit by a late fightback by the home team. Kevin Maddick had given Derwentside a solitary goal lead at half time. Langbaurgh were then hampered by the loss of their keeper due to a domestic problem, but this seemed to spur the team on and they took the lead with goals by Paul Murphy and Ally Lancaster. Derwentside fielding an improved team equalised with a close range header from Fred McAloan. His replacement, Dave Scott then chipped in with the winner.
Durham Fire moved to third with an easy seven goal win over nine-man Stockton.
Colin Jones (2), Lee Thomas (2) Scott Walters, Steve Holcroft and Simon Waggott got the goals. Waggott also picked up the man of the match, whilst debutante Lee Clarice took the honours for Stockton.
Newcastle West are fourth, a point behind the Fire Brigade and the two aides meet this week in what should he a top game. This week Newcastle struggled to a 2-1win over much-improved bottom club, Darlington. Dave Oakes bagged both goals for his side whilst Dave Parker scored late in the game for Darlington.
Sunderland Saints remain just behind the leaders with games in hand alter their three goal win over Durham HQ. Mick Robinson, Craig Murray and Les Goodliff got the goals to keep their team in contention.
Easington continue to make steady progress with their two goal victory over Sedgefield, although last season's league champions won't be able to repeat the feats of last season.
