YOUNGSTERS in Newcastle have created a colourful homage to the city's cultural influences.
Hundreds of people aged 13 to 21 took part in a project to build a stone cairn during National Youth Week.
They decorated rocks with a message or symbol of peace.
They have been used to build a celebration cairn, which goes on display at the City Library, Newcastle, on Monday.
The project is part of the city's Holocaust Memorial Day celebrations on Monday, to mark the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.
Jill Bauld, city council youth co-ordinator, said: "This is a very colourful public statement by our young people.
"It is also especially appropriate for National Holocaust Memorial Day, which this year focuses not only on the children who suffered during World War Two, but reflects on the ongoing discriminations that modern children still face.
"Each rock represents a young person's view of his or her life or hopes for a peaceful future."
As part of events, there will be an exhibition telling the story of a 12-year-old Auschwitz survivor.
The City Library and Gosforth Library will host Another Time, Another Place, from February 24 until March 8. It will then be at Gosforth Library from March 10 to 15.
