YOUNGSTERS at two village schools came under international scrutiny when some of Europe's top academics paid them a visit.
The university lecturers from Poland, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Portugal, Estonia and Sweden train schoolteachers in their home countries.
They went to the schools at Weaverthorpe and Luttons, near Scarborough, to watch a science lesson in progress.
The academics were attending a conference in Scarborough organised by Bradford education lecturer Malcolm Smith.
He said it was a European-funded project to produce science teachers for young children in their own countries and a reciprocal visit to Bulgaria is to be made by teachers from this country in September.
"The aim was to give them a flavour of the kind of science primary age children are taught in this country," he said.
"We heard about these schools' reputation in the field and decided to come and see it in action for ourselves."
