AN ACTION plan to improve housing services for the homeless has been agreed by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.
Last October the Audit Commission gave the council just one star out of three for its homelessness and housing advice service.
The council immediately announced a new £1m temporary accommodation project and has now come up with the new scheme.
Its 13-point action plan and a request for £33,000 in extra finance was agreed by the council's Executive this week. Action will include a customer survey, identifying appropriate properties for accommodation, changing administrative processes and inspecting bed and breakfast properties each week.
In a report to councillors, housing and health officer Roger Kay said: "The action plan is specifically developed to address the immediate issues highlighted in the audit report."
