STUDENTS hoping to join the Armed Forces had a taste of Army life when the Green Howards put the youngsters through their paces.

The uniformed services students at Derwentside College went on a week-long camp with the regiment, where they learned survival techniques, including building shelters and surviving out in the open.

The event was run by 122 Army Youth Team, from Catterick Garrison, in North Yorkshire.

The youngsters, under the watchful eye of their chief instructor, Sergeant Mark Clayton, from Skelton, near Middlesbrough, visited Stainton Camp, near Barnard Castle, County Durham, and toured some of the facilities in the training centre at Catterick.
