AN agreement outlining how a council and residents will co-operate to improve an area has been signed.
The agreement between Durham City Council and tenants and residents of the Ushaw Moor Estate was signed by members of the residents' group and council staff last week.
It follows more than four months of negotiations, and focuses on the areas of communication, training and estate management.
The council now plans to develop similar agreements in other areas.
Councillor Philip Stoddart, spokesman for the Ushaw Moor Residents' Group, said: "This is a great step forwards in giving tenants and residents of Ushaw Moor a real say in how their estate is managed.
"We are looking forward to working together to improve our area."
