NO fewer than eight babies have been born to ambulance control staff in the past year.
Seven mothers and a father who work in the North East Ambulance Service control centre, in Newcastle, have celebrated a happy event.
While the number of staff going on maternity leave caused a few headaches, Lynn Pyburn, control training officer, said everyone was pleased.
"It is difficult to get cover sometimes, but the outcome is definitely worth it," she said.
The work of control staff is vital to the North East Ambulance Service.
A team of controllers has to deal with about 700 emergency calls every day. The work is challenging, with 12 hour shifts, and can be stressful.
Most of the female staff have returned to work after maternity leave or will be returning soon.
Ms Pyburn said it meant a happy start to the year at the North East Ambulance headquarters.
