A POWERFUL drama has brought home the dangers of drink-driving to pupils.
The Ape Theatre Company presented Too Much Punch for Judy to a group of year 11 students from Hurworth, near Darlington.
The play recreated the true-life events leading to the death of Jo Poulton in a car driven by her sister, Judy.
The performance, which used the actual words spoken at the time of the tragedy, lasted for an hour.
It was followed by a discussion session, during which the students asked searching questions about the effects of drink-driving.
Teacher Rita Rees said: "It was a very very good play and it really made them think.
"The questions the children asked were very good. They wanted to know how much you can drink before you are unfit to drive? How does drinking affect the body? And do men and women respond differently to drink?
"The children got really involved and it was a very good presentation."
The theatre company, which is based in Essex, is touring schools in the region with the production.
