THE man who discovered international Scarborough-born singer Robert Palmer has died.
Ron Gillett, who was retired, was a leading figure in the entertainment business on the East Coast and had business interests in Scarborough and Redcar.
He first saw Robert Palmer perform when the future star was a member of Scarborough dance group the Mandrakes in the 1960s.
His friend Sir Jimmy Savile described him as "one of the resort's greatest characters. He did a great deal to encourage local musicians".
