A SCHEME to create an environmentally sustainable holiday complex on the outskirts of Richmond has won backing from businesses.
The Richmond Business and Tourism Association (RBTA) is supporting plans by local firm Eco Build UK to create 18 luxury log cabin holiday lodges at Aislabeck.
The company behind the £2m scheme, for which planning permission is being sought, says it will bring ecological, economic and social benefits to the area.
However, the Council for the Protection of Rural England has lodged an official objection to the project.
RBTA chairman Mike Pattison said: "This is exactly the right kind of scheme the region needs.
"It will attract high-spending visitors, who will come into Richmond to visit the local pubs, restaurants, gift shops and other attractions."
Eco Build UK has said it will use part of its profits for local environmental and ecological initiatives, clubs and schemes.
The company has predicted this could amount to £50,000 in the first year.
If approved, work could begin on site in the summer.
