THERE was a strong police presence on a Darlington estate at the weekend after a series of attacks on buses.
Uniformed police patrolled the Skerne Park estate on Friday night and covert officers were in the area on Saturday and Sunday to ensure there were no repeat incidents.
A bus driver on the number 23 Arriva North East bus service through Skerne Park was left shocked after three youths threw concrete blocks at his cab window last week.
The incident followed trouble in October when the bus company had to withdraw its night bus services after youths terrorised passengers and drivers.
Community safety officers are now working with Neighbourhood Watch officials to try to deal with problems on the estate.
Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator Tracey Gregory has collected 300 names on a petition backing calls for security cameras on the estate. It will be presented to Alan Milburn MP.
Police Chief Superintendent Michael Banks said there was no repeat incident at the weekend.
