A SCHOOL in Billingham could be given a new name.
Northfield School will be known as Northfield School and Sports College if members of Stockton Borough Council's cabinet agree to the change when they meet on Thursday. If approved, the new name will come into force from Saturday.
ART SHOW: Hartlepool-born Ian Lightfoot, head of art and design at Macmillan College, Middlesbrough, is holding his first show for ten years at the Norton Gallery, Norton School, Stockton, until February 28. His paintings, in oils, acrylics and watercolours, feature works inspired by key events he has witnessed in the past decade.
WHAT'S COOKING?: Hawaiian pot decorating, pirate fun, Australian art and Maori mosaics are the subjects of workshops at the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum, Stewart Park, Middlesbrough, during the February half-term. To take part, call (01642) 515656.
SCHOOL CONFERENCE: Year nine pupils at Laurence Jackson School, Guisborough, attended a conference on law and order. There were contributions from the police, prison service, an ex-offender and a magistrate during the event.
TRAINING CENTRE: Stockton Borough Council has received a planning application for the change of use of an industrial unit at Hurricane Court, Concorde Way, Stockton, to a training centre.
HOUSING PLAN: Broseley Homes has applied to Stockton Borough Council to build 54 houses with garages on land off Master Road and Magister Road, Thornaby. The land was formerly the Tristar Neasham site.
FARM FIRE: A fire in the engine compartment severely damaged a car and spread to the roof of a building at Nelson Farm, Easington Road, Hartlepool, where it was parked, on Sunday.
CULTURAL EXCHANGE: Councillor Ken Hall, Middlesbrough's speaker, will welcome members of the Hindu Cultural Society for a reception at the town hall on Thursday.
COUNCIL MEETS: Gresham Community Council, in Middlesbrough, will meet on Thursday, in Ayresome School, Parliament Road, Middlesbrough, at 7pm.
