CLUBS and societies that use rooms at a Richmond pub are worried its closure could leave them without a home.
The Black Lion in Finkle Street is one of the few in the town which can offer function rooms and, as host to the Rotary club, Richmond Live, and the Easby Footpath Restoration Group, it has played a prominent role in community affairs.
However, the doors have been locked since last week and all information wiped from the blackboards outside which normally list the food and beers available in the bar.
No one was available for comment at the premises, although owners Pubmaster issued a brief statement.
"We are aware of and very concerned about the issues regarding the Black Lion in Richmond," said a spokeswoman.
"We are addressing these issues with the current tenant and we are endeavouring to keep the pub open to continue to provide a service for the local community."
Richmond Business and Tourism Association secretary Dr Mike Nicholls urged to company to find a speedy solution.
"Losing the Black Lion would be a big blow for the town so we can only hope the problems are temporary," he said. "The pub has always been a popular meeting place and there are few other places which can offer similar facilities."
