A MAN was critically ill in hospital last night after an accident which closed the A64 in North Yorkshire for several hours.
Police had to set up diversions for other vehicles after the man's car was in collision with a van at Crambeck, between Malton and Castle Howard.
Emergency teams, including a Green Goddess crew from York, freed him from the wreckage and he was taken to York District Hospital.
The van driver was also taken to hospital, where his condition was described last night as comfortable.
The accident happened shortly after 11am and the road remained closed until 3pm.
Witnesses are asked to call police on (01723) 509555.
