VOLUNTEERS have spent nearly 2,000 hours working on a project in the Nidd Gorge, a beauty spot linking Harrogate and Knaresborough.
The first phase, supported by Bilton Conservation Group and Knox Valley Residents' Association - helped by young soldiers from the Army Foundation College - has been completed in just over a year.
Streams have been bridged and footpaths improved with boggy sections crossed by raised boardwalks and now attention is focusing on way-marking, interpretative boards and leaflets about the area's walks, wildlife and geology.
But outdoor work is still to be done, notably in Mackintosh Park, at the Knaresborough end of the gorge. Project co-ordinator Keith Wilkinson, who is seeking volunteers for five Saturday working parties on February 8 and 22, March 8 and 22, and April 5, can be contacted on (01423) 564708.
