Oa perfect morning for running, 13 Harriers travelled to York for the ever popular Brass Monkey Half Marathon.
There were 860 finishers in the event, which was won once more by Ian Fisher of Otley AC in a time of 1.07.56. Ernie Huck was the first Harrier to finish in 144th place in 1.30.19, with Alan Harman not far behind in 149th in 1.30.31.
Others: Geoff Bullock 289th 1.38.30; Alan Somers 306th 1.39.26; Roy Bainbridge 351st 1.40.55; Peter Scanlon 576th 1.51.34; Nicola Thorpe 601st 1.52.45; Ian Codling 644th 1.55.07; Kaye Mechie 685th 1.58.05; Sarah Somers 732nd 2.00.31; Judith Seaton 766th 2.05.32; Pamela Sherlock 814th 2.13.13; Marian Codling 843rd 2.20.21.
The fast, flat course at York contrasted strongly with the very hilly terrain covered by the runners in the Moorside 10k near Huddersfield. The winning runner's time of 36.22 reflects the hilly and windy conditions - R Jordan of Ipswich Jaffa. Harrier John Yates finished in 19th place in a time of 39.59, and 148 other runners completed the course.
Almost as hilly, was the Woodkirk 10k Challenge, near Dewsbury, the previous week. That race was won by David Hinchcliffe of Longwood Harriers in 33.47. Alan Harman was 51st in 45.06, Ian Codling 101st in 52.58, Pamela Sherlock 139th in 63.10 and Marian Codling 140th in 66.01.
