Spennymoor League
Coxhoe Red Lion pulled off a good victory when they visited Spennymoor Pit Laddie and took both doubles to clinch their two points victory. The home side had singles wins from J. Brown and A. Mullin, whilst the Lion went ahead with singles points from T. Brown, R. Hall and G. Noddle. The visitors then reached a certain winning margin when they had doubles points from T. Sugden with T. Brown and B. Smithson with G. Noddle. The Pit Laddie took the captain's game when J. Brown beat P. Jackson.
Spennymoor Quinns Inn opened up a two-point gap at the top of the table with Spennymoor Black Horse in second place, three points ahead of Low Spennymoor Victoria. Spennymoor Salvin Arms are only two points adrift of the Vic but have a match in hand.
The next league meeting will be held in Spennymoor Half Moon at 8pm on Wednesday, February 12 when all teams must be represented.

Durham Ranking Tournament
Darren Grainger became the first winner of a 2003 Ranking Event held at Durham Snooker Club when he beat Chris Bowran 5-3 in the final. The winner took a prize of £80 and amassed seven ranking points and 19 merit points to be added to during the year with the total deciding the seeding places for the 'Big Money' end of year tournament. Chris Bowran scored five ranking points and twenty merit points for his endeavours.
In the semi-finals Grainger beat Stephen Jones 4-3, whilst Bowran beat Mal Clarke 4-1. The beaten semi-finalists both won £25 each.
Throughout the history of the Ranking Tournament, Michael Rhodes has been almost invincible but this time he went out 3-2 to first time entrant, Stuart Green of Middlesbrough, a former professional snooker player. However in the next round Green went out to Bowran 4-3.
There was also a Plate Tournament for players beaten in the first two rounds. Dave Hodgson, who collected £20 for beating Neil Cummings 3-0 in the final, won the Plate. Cummings won £12. The beaten semi-finalists were Alan Hogarth and Dave Bridge.

Durham County
The Durham County Pool teams are hoping to improve on their very promising start to the Region One Inter-Counties Championship when they entertain Northumberland at Sacriston Daisy Hill on Sunday, February 9. The Durham teams are confident of improving on the results of their opening match against South Yorkshire where the Men's A team and the ladies team were both narrowly beaten and the men's B team made a comfortable victory.
