Northallerton ASC
Northallerton got their 2003 season off to an inspirational start last weekend at the Gateshead and Whickham graded gala held at Felling.
Seven swimmers excelled at the meet as they competed as part of the Moors swim squad helping Moors achieve a total medal tally of 27 gold, 25 silver and 12 bronze.
In total 22 personal bests and 13 club records were set in a weekend of close, compelling action. Stephen Lane (three golds), Gareth Waton (two gold, one bronze), Katie Thompson (two golds, two silvers), Zara-Dee Hannay (five golds, two silver), Laura Caygill (one silver), Ewen Lister (one silver), Adam Lister (two gold, two silver), were the magnificent seven who stole the show with a fist full of medals at the South Tyneside Event.
Bagcat age group trophies were also awarded to Stephen Lane first in nine years, Katie Thompson second in ten-years and Adam Lister third in 13 years. Stephen, Katie and Adam at present are showing rapid progress in all strokes and are fine examples of the determination showing throughout the Northallerton squad.
All the NASC swimmers who competed showed an impressive high standard of starts and turns which acted as a major contribution to their success.
Club coach Barbara Blades said: "The swimmers taking part this weekend have really applied themselves in training and it is so gratifying for them to reap the benefits of their efforts."
