FIRE chiefs have taken delivery of seven eye-catching cars - courtesy of their colleagues on the police force.
The VW Golfs are being supplied to the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service by the leasing company Inchcape Fleet Solutions. But Inchcape was unable to find a contractor who could create the livery and make all the necessary modifications in time, so they turned to the police for help.
A team at the force's workshop in Racecourse Lane, Northallerton, has turned the Golf's into emergency cars, complete with spectacular livery, blue flashing lights and two-tone horns.
Workshops senior supervisor Tony Cansfield: "Work like this helps generate income for the force and therefore off-set the cost of our own fleet of vehicles."
