A SOBBING mother told a court yesterday that she did not know who caused the multiple fractures to her baby which a medical expert said were the most severe he had seen.
Two-month-old Kane Simpson, from Billingham, Teesside, had brain injuries, two skull fractures, both legs and arms broken and six broken ribs when his mother Rachael, 19, and her boyfriend called in a doctor.
Simpson, who is expecting her boyfriend Andrew Spence's baby, in March, sobbed as she denied that they had ever hurt Kane.
She admitted accusing Spence, 24, in police interviews, saying : "I was just looking for someone to blame.
"It was not Andrew or me. I was angry about Kane's injuries."
Shaun Dodds, prosecuting at Teesside Crown Court, accused her: "Now you are back with Andrew and you are carrying his child, and that's why you are lying to this jury, isn't it?"
She replied: "I am not lying."
The couple, from Redworth Road, Billingham, deny two charges of child cruelty between September and December 2001, and the case continues.
