PUPILS at a Billingham school have raised £2,000 to sponsor a guide dog to be trained.
The Charities Commission at St Michael's School was challenged by the school's lay chaplain, Jane Cook, to raise the money for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association in a year.
The commission held a series of events, including supermarket bag-packing, a sponsored dance, quizzes and raffles.
Ms Cook said: "I feel really proud of the committee and all who have supported their efforts. It is a lot of money to raise in a year."
* The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association has launched an appeal for volunteers to raise dogs.
The charity needs volunteer puppy walkers to care for and educate dogs from when they are six weeks old until a year.
All expenses are paid for. To volunteer, call the association on (01642) 670170.
