A DELEGATION of council chiefs has headed for London in a bid to win an award.
Eight officers and councillors from Derwentside District Council are in the capital for the final round of interviews that will determine whether the authority is awarded Beacon status.
The council is in line for the award for its work on social inclusion.
It is the second time the authority has been shortlisted for the award - in 1999, it failed in a bid for Beacon status for planning services.
Councillor Alex Watson, council leader, said: "We are determined that Derwentside is awarded Beacon status.
"We have put in place a number of projects that promote social inclusion and social and business development."
