David Woodman, 20, from Durham, took the men's title for the second time with a 3-9 9-2 6-9 9.5 9-6 success over defending champion Yawar Abbas, last weekend at Nunthorpe SC.
The Cambridge University student, seeded two, reversed last year's result but needed some 90 minutes and the five sets to do so.
Abbas, sometime of Yarm, but now a resident in Manchester, showed his experience in taking the first and third sets, with the likelihood of adding to his already impressive list of ten titles.
The much younger finalist showed his fighting qualities to draw level. The protagonists were were equally matched and Abbas forged ahead to 6-1 and needed only three more to keep his title.
Woodman had other ideas, and gradually hauled back the large leeway. The crisis appeared no more than temporary as the five points needed to draw level appeared as if from nowhere.
Finding more inspiration he continued his run of winning shots and soon had not only passed the near veteran, but had taken the eight points in a row to snatch the game from the jaws of defeat and claim the honours.
Abbas had accounted for Lewis Musonda of Sunderland Racquets in one semi-final in four sets, while Woodman had removed Norton's Andy Cross in three.
The small Aykley Heads club in Durham provided the plate winner in Jonathan Sloe with a victory over Aycliffe teenager Graham Johnson.
