All of Rangers teams were back in action this weekend.
The Under-11s, sponsored by MKM (Darlington) A team, played at home in the League against Ferryhill Town. They dominated play from the off with a seven minute penalty opening the scoring. The game ended 9-2 to Rangers, giving them a seven-point lead at the top of the table. Rangers scorers were Nathan Wilson (3), Ayden Carrick (2), David Johnston, Joe Clare, Owen Raper and Ben Turnbull. Rangers man of the match was Ayden Carrick.
The Under-12s, sponsored by Weathertight Windows B team, played at home against Great Ayton in the League. The game was end to end with Rangers looking like the stronger side. It all ended in a 2-2 draw. Rangers scorers were Gary Martin and Karl Harrison with man of the match going to Tom Helibron.
The B team also played at home in the League against Brompton. They came out strong looking to take all three points with some brilliant passing football. The final score ended 6-1 to Rangers. Rangers scorers were Dominic Ryan (2), Luke Brown, Tom Wilson, Kieren Stubley and Neil Mallaby. Rangers man of the match was Dominic Ryan.
The Under-9s, sponsored by SG Petch, played away in the Cup to Cumby Rovers. Rangers were the stronger team wanting victory. They played some excellent football which paid off and gave them a place in the next round. Score ended 2-1 to Rangers. Rangers scorers were Stephen Richardson and Sean Allen. Rangers man of the match was Reece Hooper.
A friendly that followed saw Cumby win 3-0. Rangers man of the match was Dale Thompson.
On Saturday, the Under-10s, sponsored by Mill VW (Faverdale), A team played away in a friendly at Bishop Auckland St Mary's. They came up against a well established team who were used to playing together as a team. Rangers held them well but the final score ended 2-1 to St Mary's. Rangers scorer was David Woodward.
The B team also played against St Mary's and held them to a 1-1 draw. Rangers scorer was Ben Hastie.
On Sunday, the A team played away again against Belasis Juniors and after a strong performance won convincingly 2-0. Rangers scorers were Johnny Hart and David Woodward. Rangers man of the match was Johnny Hart.
The B team played Belasis and held them to a 0-0 draw. Rangers man of the match was Brian Whittle.
The Under-8s played away in the Cup at South Park Rangers. They battled well and worked very hard but the final score ended 3-0 to the home team. Rangers man of the match was Karl Hastie.
A friendly that followed saw Rangers come out the stronger team and force a well earned 3-3 draw. Rangers scorer was man of the match Joe Williamson with a hat-trick. Well done Joe.
Redcar Town
THE Under-15s surged four points ahead in the TJAFL league Division One after beating keen rivals Marton FC 2-0 when Callum Revely netted a brace.
The match was played on a brand new surface and the conditions were perfect despite heavy overnight rain.
Marton started very quick and bright and dominated the early exchanges through some great work by Jonathan Taylor. However, Redcar got going and created several openings with some brilliant passing and movement.
With his back to goal, Callum Revely showed the art of holding the ball up and with great support work by Jonathan Grounds and Gavin Jackson, Redcar turned the Marton defence twice in ten minutes and Revo, who sold his markers, cleverly scored twice to help his team take the points.
City of Durham
THE Under-9 Dragonflies marched onward with two victories at the weekend. In the first game a top of the table clash with Newbottle the Dragonflies took control early, two fantastic strikes from man of the match Stevie the rocket Ramm and a bullet from into the bottom corner from Luke Sproates saw the Dragonflies win 3-0.
