Sedgefield racecourse is reviving the first race ever run at the track - way back in 1730.
While the reward for winning 273 years ago was a silver plate worth ten guineas, the total prize fund on Tuesday will be £6,000, plus a new silver plate for the winning owner.
The Sedgefield Silver Plate of 2003 is a 3m 3f steeplechase sponsored by Saltwell Signs of Newcastle. Admission is £7 for the course enclosure and £12 (£7 senior citizens) to the grandstand enclosure. Accompanied children under 16 free
